Wearing the right size condom matters for both comfort and protection. A condom that is too tight is uncomfortable and more likely to break; one that is too loose can slip off. Most men fit a standard condom, but some will be more comfortable with a roomier fit.
How condom size is described
Condom size is usually given as nominal width – the width of the condom laid flat, in millimetres. Width matters more than length, because almost all condoms are long enough. Standard condoms are typically around 52–53mm wide.
Signs your condom is the wrong size
- Too tight: it is hard to roll down, feels uncomfortable or squeezing, or breaks.
- Too loose: it slips, bunches up or comes off during sex.
- Right fit: it rolls down easily to the base and stays in place without discomfort.

Tips for a better fit
- Pinch the tip and roll the condom all the way to the base.
- If a condom feels tight, try a larger fit rather than forcing it.
- If it slips, try a standard or snugger condom and check you are holding the base when withdrawing.
- Add water-based lubricant on the outside for comfort – never inside, as it can make the condom slip.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my condom size?
Most men fit a standard condom. If standard condoms feel very tight or break, try a larger fit like Durex Jeans Large; if they slip, stay with a standard fit.
Does a larger condom give less protection?
No – a condom that fits properly protects best. The right size is the one that stays in place comfortably.
Can I use a regular condom if it feels tight?
You can, but a too-tight condom is more uncomfortable and more likely to break. A larger fit is a better choice.
